Sensus Fieldlogic Hub How To Overcome This
I am very familiar with the AutoVu and AutoRead system. What does this meter cost you and is it set up for AMI? Does it work with the same software as an iPerl? I think I was told it was $100 more than an iPerl. Are you having a problem with the iPerls that have a dead battery within the first few months and display a dead battery error or no display at all? Also have you noticed that sometimes the iPerls will register usage when when out of the ground? I have no faith in their accuracy. Does it report pressure? Flow rate doesn’t seem too impressive (hasn’t this been out for years?) but temperature is. This has remote shut off right? How does your utility utilize this? Our problem is that if we shut off the water from the meter itself (instead of at the curb stop, so we can save an office visit) how can we turn it on remotely an ensure that a sink, etc is not left in the on position, potentially creating a flood issue? Do you have a way to do a remote shut off if 10 gallons immediately run through it once the water is turned on at the meter? We want to save the trip, but haven’t thought of how to overcome this obstacle to prevent being liable for flooding. They let our utility keep it for free. I have only worked with the prototype of the Sensus Ally meter.
I’m not sure if you would have any use for it but if so let me know. I created a macro in Excel that converts the Excel data file from the data log into a more meaningful chart (better than the one displayed on the default program). Oh yeah the command link is the name, oops haha. There are some tricks that made it easier like tricking the system into showing you the info screen on a meter while in read mode, so that you could add the read without pausing again.
The RNI as well which has a lot of good information but is not set up for your every day office personnel. Do you have an MDM? Or do you just have the RNI? Do you have a customer portal of some sort? We have MeterSense which sucks (okay well it’s not my cup of tea). A big problem with the iPerl is the cross threading by the way.
Sounds like we have kinda had similar experiences with Sensus. I did the exact same thing for excel macro it saved a lot of time. It’s kinda the same with ally I’m only gonna get a few and maybe wait a year or two before I switch over to them. I didn’t buy any ipearl till after about the first year they came out because I wanted to avoid any early problems. I got in on Sensus before the ipearl so most of my meter are the SR II which is a solid meter I only have one bad one so far, which is impressive. I’m surprised you can’t use the RNI to issue a command to turn on/off their water, but commands (like an On Demand Read) seem to usually fail for us anyway, so shrug.I have not had many problems with the ipearls I did get a bad batch about a year or two ago that did what you said, but me being a much smaller system was just a few meters.
I actually got rid of the stock antenna that comes with the vgb and got one off amazon that literally increase the speed reads come in at least double and at an increased range. Autovu has worked great for my system. I think it may cause reading problems with the electronics in the meter it’s self if they did. I have expressed my hate for the plastic threads on ipearls but it doesn’t seem like they are ever going to put metal on those threads. I do use the Sensus customer portal for returns and support tickets it leaves a lot to be desired but it works. Sensus charged something crazy like 5,000 per county and sold a few for 500 but haven’t sold many in a while.
